As I was considering what to do, I met <a href="https://store.success.com/by-author/earl-shoaff/">John Earl Shoaff</a>, a wealthy entrepreneur who became my employer for the next five years. <p>While there are many puzzle pieces for success, without developing a sound personal philosophy, the other pieces are of little value. So as you go forward on this journey toward success, remember the following.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-7-tips-for-developing-your-personal-philosophy">7 Tips for Developing Your Personal Philosophy</h2>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-set-your-sail"><strong>1. Set your sail.</strong></h3>



<p>The winds of circumstance blow upon all of us. We all have experienced the winds of disappointment, despair and heartbreak, but why do people arrive at such different places at the end of the journey? Have we not all sailed upon the same sea?</p>



<p>The major difference isn’t circumstance; it’s the set of the sail, or the way we think—it’s what we do after we’ve set our sails and the wind decides to change direction. When the winds change, <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/if-you-want-to-change-your-life-change-what-you-think/">we must change</a>. We have to struggle to our feet and reset the sail in a manner that will steer us in the direction of our own deliberate choice. The set of the sail, or how we think and how we respond, has a far greater capacity to destroy our lives than any challenges we face. How quickly we respond to adversity is far more important than adversity itself.</p>



<p>The great challenge of life is to control the process of our own thinking.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-learn-from-success-and-failure"><strong>2. Learn from success and failure.</strong></h3>



<p>The best way to establish a new and powerful personal philosophy is to objectively review the conclusions you’ve drawn about life. Any conclusion you’ve drawn that isn’t working for you could be working against you. The best way to counteract misinformation and wrong data is to input new and accurate information. Gather information from personal experience. If you’re doing something wrong, evaluate what you did wrong and change things.</p>



<p>Seek an objective, outside voice about how you are and what you’re doing. An objective opinion from someone you respect can lead you to early and accurate information about your <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/be-better-at-decision-making/">decision-making process</a>. Listen to the freshness of an outside voice—someone who can see the forest and isn’t lost in the trees.</p>



<p>Observe the successes and failures of other people. If people who failed were to give seminars, it would be helpful. You could see how people mess up and you wouldn’t do what they did. Past failures and errors prompt us to amend current conduct so we don’t replicate the past.</p>



<p>Study from people who do well. Each of us should be in a constant search for people we admire and respect and whose behavior we can model. It’s far better to deliberately choose the people we will permit to influence us than to allow bad influences to affect us without our conscious choice.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-3-read-all-you-can"><strong>3. Read all you can.</strong></h3>



<p>People from all walks of life who’ve had some of the most incredible experiences have taken the time to write of these experiences so we can be instructed and amend our philosophies.</p>



<p>The contributions of other people enable us to reset our sails based upon their experiences. Books offer treasures of information that can change our lives, fortunes, relationships, health and careers for the better.</p>



<p>There are two books you need to read to build your philosophy: <em>Think and Grow Rich</em> by Napoleon Hill and <em>The Richest Man</em> in Babylon by George S. Clason.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-4-keep-a-journal"><strong>4. Keep a journal.</strong></h3>



<p>A journal is a gathering place for all of our observations and discoveries about life. It’s our own handwritten transcript that captures our experiences, ideas, desires and conclusions about the people and the events that have touched our lives. The past, when properly documented, is one of the best guides for making good decisions.</p>



<p>The very act of writing about our lives helps us think more objectively about our actions. Writing tends to slow down the flow of information and gives us time to analyze and ponder the experience. The intense scrutiny of journal writing can enable us to make refinements in our philosophy that are truly life-changing.</p>



<p>Jot down what you learn and be a buyer of empty books. It’s the small disciplines that lead to great accomplishments.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-5-observe-and-listen"><strong>5. Observe and listen.</strong></h3>



<p>Pay attention during your day, watch what’s going on. Surround yourself with people you respect and admire. Find people whose personalities and achievements stimulate, fascinate and inspire you, and then strive to assimilate their best qualities. This is called the skill of selecting. Don’t waste your time on the silly and the shallow.</p>



<p>One of the major reasons people don’t do well is because they keep trying to get through the day while a more worthy cause is to get from the day. We must become sensitive enough to observe and ponder what is happening around us. Be alert. Be awake. Often the most extraordinary opportunities are hidden among seemingly insignificant events.</p>



<p>Be a good listener. Find a voice of value and stay for a while. With so many voices vying for your attention, you need to develop the skill of selective listening and only <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/cheyenne-bryant-can-help-you-manifest-the-life-you-want/">dial into the radio station that appeals to you</a>. If a voice is not leading to the achievement of your goals, exercise caution in how long you listen.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-6-be-disciplined"><strong>6. Be disciplined.</strong></h3>



<p>Every day is filled with dozens of personal crossroads, moments when we’re called upon to make a decision regarding minor as well as major questions. These decisions chart a path to a future destination. With careful mental preparation, we can make wise choices.</p>



<p>The development of a sound philosophy prepares us for making sound decisions. When we eat healthy foods, we experience positive results in a short time. When we start exercising, we feel a new vitality almost immediately. When we begin reading, we experience a growing awareness and a new level of self-confidence.</p>



<p>New disciplines practiced daily will produce exciting results. The magic of new disciplines causes us to amend our thinking.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-7-don-t-neglect"><strong>7. Don’t neglect.</strong></h3>



<p>Neglect is the major reason people don’t have what they want. If you don’t take care of things in your life, neglect becomes a disease. If you neglect to do good things with your money, you probably neglect to do good things with your time. If you don’t know what’s going on with your health or your bank account, you could be at risk.</p>



<p>Set up new disciplines to change your life. Don’t neglect. Everything is within our reach if we will read books, use journals, practice the disciplines and wage a new and vigorous battle against neglect.</p>



<p>Focus on developing your personal philosophy. Commit yourself to a new journey and say, “I’m going to change my life.” Once you do, you’ll never look back.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Our results are only limited by our imaginations. History has proven that time and again.</p>



<p>Once upon a time, it was a technological impossibility for humans to travel into outer space. In 1969, however, the first man stepped out onto the surface of the moon. The miraculous process of converting this dream into reality began when President John F. Kennedy <a href="https://www.jfklibrary.org/learn/about-jfk/historic-speeches/address-to-joint-session-of-congress-may-25-1961#:~:text=While%20listing%20national%20goals%2C%20the,.%22%20This%20excerpt%20ends%20abruptly." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">challenged the scientific community</a> to do whatever was necessary to see to it that America “commit itself to achieving the goal, before [the] decade [was] out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth.” That challenge awakened the spirit of a nation by planting the seed of possible future achievement into the fertile soil of imagination. With that one bold challenge, the impossible path became the course for reality.</p>



<p>I can tell you with absolute certainty that the same principles that put men on the moon have the power to take you a long, long way in your own life. The unique combination of desire, planning, effort and perseverance will always work its magic. The question is indeed not whether this formula for success will work for a person, but whether a person will work the formula. That is the unknown variable, the challenge that confronts us all. We can all go from wherever we are to wherever we want to be—provided we first have the courage to believe in that dream.</p>



<p>I know, because it happened in my own life. By the time I was 25, <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/10-money-habits-that-are-leaving-you-broke/">I was broke</a> and embarrassed—I felt like I was a failure, and well on my way to failing more. But with mentorship, study and hard work, I changed my circumstances.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Of course, it didn’t happen overnight. The first thing I had to realize is what I was doing that brought me such poor results.</p>



<h2 id="h-the-status-quo-leads-to-failure">The status quo leads to failure</h2>



<p>Failure is not a single cataclysmic event. Just as we don’t succeed overnight, we don’t fail overnight, either. To put it more simply, failure is nothing more than a few errors in judgment repeated every day.</p>



<p>Now why would someone make an error in judgment and then be so foolish as to continuously repeat it? Perhaps the answer is because we do not think that it matters. On their own, our daily actions don’t seem that important. A minor oversight, a poor decision or a wasted hour don’t generally result in an instant and measurable impact. More often than not, we escape from any immediate consequences. If we have not bothered to <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/ways-to-read-more-books/">read a single book</a>&nbsp; in the past 90 days, this lack of discipline does not seem to have any immediate effect. And since nothing drastic happened to us after the first 90 days, we repeat this error in judgment for another 90 days, and on and on it goes. Why? Because it doesn’t seem to matter.</p>



<p>And herein lies the great danger. Far worse than not reading books is not even realizing that <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/from-the-archives-the-power-of-reading/">it matters to do so</a>.</p>



<p>People who eat too many of the wrong foods are contributing to their future health problems, but the joy of the moment overshadows the consequences of the future. Those who drink or smoke too much go on making these poor choices year after year after year—again, because it doesn’t seem to matter.</p>



<p>But the pain and regret of these kinds of errors in judgment are only delayed until a later date.</p>



<p>Failure’s most dangerous attribute is its subtlety—that is, when we do not seem to be failing. In fact, sometimes these accumulated errors occur throughout periods of great joy and prosperity in our lives. Since nothing terrible happens to us—since there are no instant consequences to capture our attention—we simply drift from one day to the next, repeating the errors, thinking the wrong thoughts, listening to the wrong voices and making the wrong choices. The sky did not fall in on us yesterday; therefore, the act was probably harmless.</p>



<p>We should know better than that.</p>



<p>This is why it is imperative to refine our philosophy in order to be able to make better choices. With a powerful, personal philosophy guiding our every step, we become more aware of our actions and the ripple effects they’ll have. That’s the great news: Just like the formula for failure, the formula for success is easy to follow. It’s just a few simple disciplines practiced every day.</p>



<h2 id="h-making-a-change-is-the-formula-for-success">Making a change is the formula for success</h2>



<p>How can we change the errors in the formula for failure into the disciplines required in the formula for success? The answer is by making the future an important part of our current philosophy.</p>



<p>What if you <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/rohn-how-to-start-a-new-discipline/">developed a new discipline</a> to take just a few minutes every day to look a little further down the road? Perhaps you would then be able to foresee the impending consequences of your current conduct. Armed with that valuable information, you would be able to take the necessary action to change your errors into new success-oriented disciplines.&nbsp;</p>



<p>As you change daily errors into daily disciplines, you’ll begin to experience the positive results. <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/feed-your-happiness-with-these-foods/">When we change our diet</a>, our health improves noticeably. We begin to feel a new vitality <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/how-to-create-an-exercise-routine-that-doesnt-suck/">when we start exercising</a>. When we take the time to study, we experience a growing awareness and a new level of self-confidence. Whatever new discipline we begin to practice daily will likely produce exciting results that will drive us to become even better at developing other disciplines in the future.</p>



<p>I know one surefire way to create change: start. If you start today, then this would be the first day of a new life leading to a better future. If today is the day you start to try harder, and in every way make a conscious and consistent effort to change subtle and deadly errors into constructive and rewarding disciplines, you may never again settle for a life of mere existence rather than one of substance.</p>



<p>More often than not, however, change isn’t as simple as flipping a switch. In my experience, it’s usually driven by one of three emotions.</p>



<h2 id="h-emotions-related-to-making-a-change">Emotions related to making a change</h2>



<p>Emotions are the most powerful forces inside of us. Under the power of emotions, human beings <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/would-you-risk-your-life-to-save-a-stranger/">can perform heroic</a> (and barbaric) acts. To a great degree, civilization itself can be defined as the intelligent channeling of human emotion. Emotions are fuel and the mind is the pilot, which together propel the ship of progress.</p>



<p>Which emotions cause people to act? There are three basic ones; each, or a combination of them, can trigger the most incredible progress. The day that you allow these emotions to fuel you is the day you’ll turn your life around.</p>



<h3 id="h-disgust">Disgust</h3>



<p>One does not usually equate the word “disgust” with positive action. And yet, properly channeled, disgust can change a person’s life. The person who feels disgusted has reached a point of no return. They are ready to throw down the gauntlet at life and say, “I’ve had it!” That’s what I said after many humiliating experiences at age 25. I said, “I don’t want to live like this anymore.”</p>



<p>Productive feelings of disgust come when a person says, “Enough is enough.” It is then that they are primed to become something new.</p>



<h3 id="h-desire">Desire</h3>



<p>Almost anything can trigger desire. It’s a matter of timing as much as preparation. It might be a song that tugs at the heartstrings. It might be a memorable sermon. Maybe it's a movie, a conversation with a friend or a bitter experience. Even a book or an article such as this one can trigger the inner mechanism that will make some people say, “I want it now!”</p>



<p>Therefore, while searching for your hot button of pure, raw desire, welcome each positive experience into your life. Don’t erect a wall to protect you from experiencing life. The same wall that keeps out the shadows of your disappointment also keeps out the sunlight of enriching experiences. So let life touch you. The next touch could be the one that turns your life around.</p>



<h3 id="h-resolve">Resolve</h3>



<p>Resolve says, “I will.” These two words are among the most potent in the English language.</p>



<p>The mountain climber says, “I will climb the mountain. They’ve told me it’s too high, it’s too far, it’s too steep, it’s too rocky, it’s too difficult. But it’s my mountain. I will climb it.” Who can argue with such resolve?</p>



<p>If you want to create change in your life, promise yourself you will never give up.</p>



<h2 id="h-you-have-to-choose-to-make-a-change">You have to choose to make a change</h2>



<p>Any day you wish, you can discipline yourself to change it all, to open the book that will expose your mind to new knowledge, start a new activity and begin the process of changing your life. You can do it immediately, or next week, next month or next year.</p>



<p>Or, you can do nothing. You can pretend rather than perform. And if the idea of having to change makes you uncomfortable, you can remain as you are. Truth be told, this is the more comfortable setting right now. You probably haven’t experienced those consequences yet.</p>



<p>But are you thinking about the future? If you are, you know why you would choose labor over rest, education over entertainment, truth over delusion and confidence over doubt.</p>



<p>The emotions are ours to feel and the choices are ours to make. Don’t curse the effect while nourishing the cause. As Shakespeare uniquely observed in <em><a href="https://amzn.to/3ZWT6OG" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Julius Caesar</a></em>, “The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are underlings.”</p>



<p>We create our circumstances by our choices. We have both the ability and the responsibility to make better choices, beginning today. Those who are in search of the good life do not need more answers or more time to think things over to reach better conclusions. They need the truth. They need the whole truth. And they need nothing but the truth.&nbsp;</p>



<p>We cannot allow our errors in judgment, repeated every day, to lead us down the wrong path. We must keep coming back to those basics that make the biggest difference in how our life works out. And then we must make the very choices that will bring life, happiness and joy into our daily lives.</p>



<h3 id="h-making-a-change-starts-with-you">Making a change starts with you</h3>



<p>If I may be so bold to offer a final piece of advice for someone seeking and needing to make changes in their life: If you don’t like how things are, change it! You’re not a tree. You have the ability to totally transform every area of your life, and it all begins with your very own power of choice.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I know the following things to be true: Life consists of perpetual, predictable patterns of change. The only constant factor is our feelings and <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/why-attitude-matters/">attitudes toward life</a>. We have <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/education-experience-dont-guarantee-success-attitude-habits-do/">the power of attitude</a>, and attitude determines choice as choice determines results. You cannot change the seasons, but <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/ashiraprossack1/2021/12/29/a-7-step-plan-for-personal-and-professional-growth-and-development/?sh=1eb4ca15ab0f" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">you can change yourself</a> and take advantage of opportunity when it comes.</p>



<p>I am convinced that, as human beings, it is our natural destiny to grow, to succeed, to prosper <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/you-can-choose-happiness/">and to find happiness</a> while we are here. We must make a constant and <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/365-ways-to-improve-yourself/">conscious effort to improve ourselves</a> in the face of changing circumstances.</p>



<p>Let’s talk about spring. Spring is the season of activity and opportunity that follows the turbulence of winter. It’s the season for plowing the fertile fields of life with seed, knowledge, commitment and a determined effort.</p>



<p>However, the mere arrival of spring is not a sign that things will look good in the fall. You must do something with the spring. Everyone has to get good at one of two things: planting in the spring or begging in the fall. Take advantage of each day and the opportunities that spring can bring.</p>



<p>Some people plant in the spring and leave in the summer. If you’ve signed up for a season, see it through. You don’t have to stay forever, but at least stay until then.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-take-advantage-of-opportunity">Take advantage of opportunity</h2>



<p>It is the promise of spring that “as you sow, <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/serve-others-to-get-all-you-want/">so shall you reap</a>.” For every <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/rohn-how-to-start-a-new-discipline/">disciplined human effort</a>, we will receive a multiple reward. Each cup planted will reap a bushel. For every good idea given to another, many shall be given to us. For <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/too-busy-for-relationships/">every act of love given</a>, a life of love in return.</p>



<p>Just remember, it is the natural characteristic of springtime to present itself ever so briefly, to lull us into inactivity with its bounteous beauty. Do not pause too long to soak in the aroma of the blossoming flowers, lest you awaken to find springtime gone with your seeds still unplanted.</p>



<p>With the intelligence, wisdom and freedom of choice given to us as humans, exercise the discipline to plant in spite of the rocks and weeds before you. The rocks, weeds and thorns of the world cannot destroy all your seeds if you plant massively and intelligently enough.</p>



<p>Choose action, not rest. Choose truth, not fantasy; love, not animosity. <a href="https://www.betterup.com/blog/positive-mental-attitude" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">See the good in life</a>. Choose to take advantage of opportunity as well as the chance to work when springtime smiles upon your life.</p>



<p>Spring shows us that life is truly a constant beginning, a constant opportunity. We need only to learn to look once again at life <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/think-like-a-child/">as we did as children</a>, letting fascination and curiosity give us welcome cause to look for the miraculous hidden among the common.</p>



<p>Get busy quickly on your springs—your opportunities. There are just a handful of springs that have been handed to each of us. Life is brief, even at its longest. Whatever you are going to do with your life, get at it. Don’t just let the seasons pass you by.</p>

<p>Don’t worry about things you have no control over. Don’t spend your time thinking about all of the bad things that <em>might</em> happen to you. Don’t spend your time plotting and planning ways to make sure these things will never happen.</p>



<p>Courageous people don’t worry about things that are out of their control or things that are unlikely to happen. They concentrate on <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/why-you-should-focus-on-what-you-can-control/">what they <em>can</em> control</a>.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-face-your-fears-before-you-start-something">2. Face your fears before you start something.</h2>



<p>Imagine difficult situations before they occur. Make a list of the worst that could happen, and you’ll probably see that the situation is not so bad after all.</p>



<p>A friend of mine lost everything a few years back—her home, cars, possessions, antiques, art, jewelry and credit. She lost it all. Now on her way back up, whenever she’s <a href="https://www.npr.org/2020/12/18/948017291/faced-with-a-tough-decision-the-key-to-choosing-may-be-your-mindset" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">faced with a tough decision</a>, she asks herself, “What’s the worst that can happen?” And guess what, she’s already been through the worst and she survived. It’s not an issue anymore.</p>



<p>You don’t have to lose everything to lose that particular fear. But once you <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/facing-100-fears-with-michelle-poler/">face your fear</a>, you can move on. Once you’ve figured out the worst that could possibly happen, you’ll see that you have the inner strength to deal with it if the worst scenario comes about. And here’s the best part: If you’ve looked at the possibilities beforehand, you’ll probably never be faced with the situation at all. Why? Because you’ve already been through it. By contemplating what might happen, you’ve charted your course to ensure that it doesn’t.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-3-imagine-the-alternative">3. Imagine the alternative.</h2>



<p>Picture the result of giving into your fears. Really feel<em> </em>the cost of <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/how-to-get-over-your-fears-and-get-on-with-your-life/">being ruled by fear</a>, then really feel<em> </em>the benefits of courageously following your ambition. Carefully weigh the two and see the difference.</p>



<p>If you’ve been invited to address your national sales convention and are <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/afraid-of-public-speaking-7-tips-to-do-it-well/">scared to death</a> of public speaking, what should you do? You could decline the invitation, knowing full well that your fears are holding you back. Or you could take some classes, read some books, practice with a friend. See yourself stepping into a whole new league. You’ll be accepting the opportunity to gain more notoriety in your field. And you’ll be <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/4-ways-to-attract-more-business-opportunities/">increasing your opportunities</a> for future success.</p>



<p>Once again, it’s your choice. Be fueled by your fears, or face your fears. It all depends on how badly you want something. It all depends on how you choose to live your life. Do you always want to be afraid of taking the next step, or do you want to <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/courage-its-the-secret-to-getting-everything-you-want-in-life/">find your courage</a> in the face fear and open the doors of opportunity? I know what my answer would be.</p>

<p>If you’re serious about <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/the-complete-guide-to-money-how-to-create-wealth/">becoming a wealthy</a>, powerful, sophisticated, healthy, influential, cultured and unique individual, <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/the-stoic-art-of-journaling/">keep a journal</a>—don’t trust your memory. When you listen to something valuable, write it down. When you come across something important, write it down and leave it as a legacy.</p>



<p>I used to take notes on pieces of paper, torn-off corners and backs of old envelopes. I wrote ideas on restaurant placemats, long sheets, narrow sheets, little sheets and pieces of paper thrown in a drawer. And the best way <a href="https://medium.com/copywriting-secrets/why-i-keep-an-idea-journal-dbabb7f53b42" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">to organize all those ideas</a> was to keep a journal.</p>



<p>So I became a buyer of blank books, something people found interesting. “Twenty-six dollars for a blank book, why would you pay that?” they’d say. Well, the reason I paid it was to challenge myself to find something worth $26 to put in there. But if you ever got ahold of one of my journals, you wouldn’t have to look very far to discover that it’s worth more than that.</p>

<p><a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/keeping-a-daily-journal-could-change-your-life/">Keeping a journal</a> is so important. In fact, it is one of three important treasures to leave as a legacy for the next generation:</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-your-pictures">1. Your pictures</h3>



<p>Take a lot. Don’t be lazy in capturing an event. How long does it take to snap a photo? A fraction of a second. How long does it take to miss an event? A fraction of a second. So don’t miss the pictures—when you’re gone, they’ll keep the memories alive.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-your-library">2. Your library</h3>



<p>This is the library that taught you, instructed you, helped you defend your ideals. It helped you develop a philosophy. It helped you become wealthy, powerful, healthy, sophisticated and unique. Your library—<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/27-books-for-success-to-add-to-your-summer-reading-list/">the books that instructed you</a> and <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/from-the-archives-the-power-of-reading/">fed your mind</a> and soul—is one of the greatest gifts you can leave behind as a legacy.</p>

<p>These are the ideas you picked up and the information that you meticulously gathered. Taking pictures—that’s pretty easy. Buying a book at a bookstore—also pretty easy. It is a little more challenging to be a student <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/rohn-why-you-should-be-a-student-of-your-own-life/">of your own life</a>, your own future, your own destiny.</p>



<p>Take the time to write notes and <a href="https://www.betterup.com/blog/how-to-start-journaling" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">keep a journal</a>. You’ll be so glad you did. What a treasure to leave behind as a legacy when you go. What a treasure to enjoy today!</p>

<p>The holiday season has officially graced us with its presence. The holidays are a time of celebration and bliss, not stress. The pure magic of these December days is something I anticipate and enjoy each and every year.</p>



<p>For some, though, the holidays have <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/what-to-do-when-youve-got-the-holiday-blues/">lost the delight and excitement</a> they once held. The pace of life has become so fast—much faster than those first holidays I remember in my life—that the season can be full of stress. <a href="https://www.verywellmind.com/understanding-and-managing-holiday-stress-3145230" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Some people don’t enjoy</a> spending time with family and friends during what are supposed to be days filled with pure joy and peace.</p>



<p>Why is that? Our hectic lives can probably account for a lot of it, but that isn’t all.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to Reduce Your Holiday Stress</h2>



<p>I believe our holidays should be wonderful, filled with lasting and enjoyable moments and memories. So how can we ensure that we come out of the holidays in January with great memories of the past month? Here are six thoughts that will help you enjoy the holidays, with peace and joy:</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-be-temperate-to-avoid-holiday-stress">1. Be temperate to avoid holiday stress.</h3>



<p>Holidays can be days of excess for many—too much food, too many sweet treats, schedules that are too busy. One thing that will help you enjoy the holidays and reduce stress is to be temperate. Enjoy the food. Indulge in the treats. Enjoy the busy schedule of activities and parties. But also be disciplined enough to know when to hold back, when to say no. When we go overboard, we regret it and lose the opportunity to fully experience that moment. But when we enjoy a little and refrain from going too far, then we can enjoy all that little piece of time has to offer.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-lower-your-expectations">2. Lower your expectations.</h3>



<p>Much of the frustration and stress people experience during the holidays comes from setting their expectations too high. They expect too much from friends or family, and when they don’t get what they want, they get upset. They expect presents to be perfect, and when they aren’t, they get disappointed. Instead of having huge expectations this holiday season, just take it as it comes. So…</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-3-enjoy-what-you-can-and-ignore-the-rest">3. … Enjoy what you can and ignore the rest.</h3>



<p>Go with an attitude of knowing that things will be what they will be. You can’t control other people or their actions. If a family member pushes <a href="https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/fixing-families/202208/how-lower-your-frustration-and-increase-your-patience" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the limits of your patience</a>, ignore that and instead focus on how much you can enjoy the time you have with other family members. If things don’t go perfectly—and they won’t—then enjoy what you can and let the rest slide. You will feel a lot better about life if you can take all things a little easier.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-4-stay-out-of-debt">4. Stay out of debt.</h3>



<p>Debt is a killer. It will steal your enjoyment of life and add undue stress during the holidays. Be sure to <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/3-ways-to-avoid-overspending-during-the-holidays/">stay within your financial boundaries</a> this season. The last thing you want is to start the new year with a deeper financial burden. Know where you are financially and stay within those limits. You don’t have to impress anyone; just buy gifts that you can afford and express your heartfelt feeling in the giving of the gift.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-5-take-time-for-yourself-to-reduce-holiday-stress">5. Take time for yourself to reduce holiday stress.</h3>



<p>Be sure that no matter how busy you get, you <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/what-good-self-care-looks-like/">take time for yourself</a>. Take time to read. Enjoy a long bath if that relaxes you. Take a walk. <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/how-to-find-solitude/">Spend some quiet time</a> in front of a fire. Don’t rush through the holidays and zap all of your energy. You need to reenergize your mind and body, so be sure to take time to do so.</p>

<p>Ultimately, no matter what traditions you follow, the holidays are historically days in which we focus on the spiritual. People feel a natural draw toward a spiritual life. However, our culture today tends to stay away from a focus on the spiritual, and that has even crept into our holidays. Placing an emphasis on building your spiritual life and growing in that area will help keep you grounded and able to deal with any holiday stress that might come your way.</p>

Sometimes people can fake their interest, but if you've been a leader for a while, you’ll be a capable judge of whether somebody is merely pretending.</p>



<p>Arrange face-to-face conversation and try to gauge their sincerity to the best of your ability. You won't hit the bull’s-eye every time, but you can get pretty good at spotting genuine interest. The most interested prospects are often good ones.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-4-check-results"><strong>4. Check results.</strong></h2>



<p>How else can we effectively judge an individual's performance? The final judge must be results—and there are two types of results to look for.</p>



<p>The first type is work activity, and it's simple to follow up on. Within a sales organization, you can request a new salesman make 10 calls their first week. If they start telling a story or making excuses for poor results when you follow up on their progress, it’s a definite sign. If their lack of activity continues, you'll soon realize that they may not be capable of being a member of your team.</p>



<p>The second area you need to monitor is productivity. The ultimate test of a quality team is measurable progress in a reasonable amount of time. Be upfront with your team as to what you expect them to produce. Don't let the surprises come later.</p>



<p>When you're following this four-part checklist, your instincts play a major role, and they will improve each time you go through the process.</p>

What <em>is</em> true is that<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/blog/4-truths-of-creating-your-own-opportunities"> </a>you have to love the opportunity—the opportunity to build your life, future, health, success and fortune. Knocking on someone’s door may not be something you love to do, but you should love the opportunity of what might be behind it.</p>



<p>Someone says, "I'm digging ditches. Should I love digging ditches?" The answer? No, you don't have to love digging ditches, but if it is the first step on <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbesbusinesscouncil/2021/11/05/four-things-you-need-to-do-to-climb-the-corporate-ladder-faster/?sh=6da46ac277c3" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the ladder of success</a>, you should be thinking, <em>I'm glad somebody gave me the opportunity to dig ditches, and I'm going to do it so well, I won't be here long.</em></p>



<p>You can be inspired just by having <em>found</em> something, even though you are making mistakes in the beginning and even though it is not ideal to take on a new discipline that you haven't learned yet. <p>A patient individual is always richer than an impatient one, even if the patient individual has less money.</p>



<p>What do I mean by that statement? Well,<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/rohn-3-keys-to-becoming-wealthy"><strong> </strong></a>riches and wealth can take other forms besides dollars and cents. So in what sense is the patient individual richer? The answer is actually very simple. A patient individual is always richer than the impatient one because <em>the</em> <em>patient individual </em><a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/success-should-feel-fun-4-ways-to-stop-racing-ahead-and-enjoy-the-ride/"><em>can always afford to wait</em></a><em>. </em>The patient individual is never desperate. The patient individual has time to spare, while the person in a hurry is always on the verge of bankruptcy as far as time is concerned.</p>



<p>In any situation you can think of, impatience is a source of weakness and fear, while patience represents substance and strength.</p>

If you can only see in the short term, if you think only in terms of the here and now, then you are stuck in one place. You can’t judge distances. You live in a world that’s flat and two-dimensional. <p>Building your ambition is building your enterprising skills: To consistently <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbesbusinesscouncil/2021/07/29/three-steps-to-find-the-best-opportunities-for-your-business/?sh=25b978c34d87" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">create new opportunities</a>, to consistently take advantage of the opportunities you’ve created, to be aware, to face life with your eyes and ears open to the possibilities that might be just around the corner. Self-enterprising people always see the future in the present. Self-enterprising people will always find a way to take advantage of a situation, not be burdened by it.</p>



<p>Enterprise is always better than ease. Every time we choose to do less than we possibly can, it affects our self-confidence, our self-worth. If we keep doing a little less every day, we are also <em>being</em> a little less. If we don’t feel good about ourselves, we won’t feel good about our lives. And if we don’t feel good about our lives, we won’t be very interested in looking for opportunities.</p>



<p>You can reverse this process by using your self-direction, self-reliance and self-discipline. You can alter your course by doing a little more each day. Pretty soon, you’ll develop a new habit of <em>doing</em> rather than neglecting.</p>



<p>Success isn’t in the having. Success is in the doing. It’s the process of doing that brings value. It’s the activity that transforms our dreams into reality, that converts ideas into actuality. Self-enterprise is found in that activity. For without activity, we’ll miss the opportunity.</p>



<p>Some people out there would have us believe that positive affirmation is more important than activity. Instead of doing something constructive to change our lives, they would have us repeating slogans such as “Every day and in every way, I’m getting better and better.”</p>



<p><a href="https://www.healthline.com/health/mental-health/do-affirmations-work#making-them-effective" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">But getting better</a> doesn’t just happen from wishful thinking. Getting better only happens with the discipline of <em>doing</em> better. Discipline is the requirement for progress. And affirmations without discipline are—in all reality—delusions.</p>



<p>Now, don’t get me wrong here. There’s nothing wrong with affirming the good life, as long as we are disciplined enough to take action. Affirmations can be effective as long as we remember two very important rules:</p>



<ol>
<li>We should never allow affirmation to replace action, activity or enterprise. Feeling better is no substitute for doing better.</li>



<li>Whatever we choose to affirm must be the truth. If the truth happens to be that we’re broke, simply say, “I’m broke.” By admitting you’re broke out loud, you’ll probably be disappointed enough to start the thinking process for how to change it.</li>
</ol>

<p>So you’re here. You want to change and you’re ready to make the change. Follow these six steps to build <a href="https://hbr.org/2020/04/how-ambitious-should-you-be" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the power of your ambition</a>:</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-if-you-re-faced-with-a-mental-roadblock-put-it-down-on-paper">1. If you’re faced with a mental roadblock, put it down on paper.</h2>



<p>Remember, creativity is the first requirement for self-enterprise. When you put a problem on paper, you take the emotion out of it. With the emotion gone, you can look at the roadblock objectively. You can figure out what you did right. You can figure out what you did wrong. You can figure out how to change it.</p>



<p>Pick a problem out of your head and pull out a piece of paper. Then, draw a line down the middle. On the left-hand side, jot down the problem. On the other side, put the solutions. And I have three questions you must ask yourself to <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/6-creative-ways-to-solve-a-problem/">find the solutions</a>:</p>



<ul>
<li><strong>What can I do?</strong></li>



<li><strong>What could I read?</strong> You don’t need to reinvent the wheel—do your homework and find the solution.</li>



<li><strong>Who could I ask?</strong> Approach them and say, “I’ve researched this material and I’m still short. Can you help me?”</li>
</ul>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-develop-the-ability-to-brainstorm">2. Develop the ability to brainstorm.</h2>



<p>We hear this term all the time. But what is brainstorming? It’s letting your brain go. It’s being free from all inhibitions and objections and negatives—just putting an idea into your brain and <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/brainstorming-exercise-better-business-ideas/?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=facebook">letting it take off</a>. It’s not planning a train of thought, but thinking freely.</p>



<p>Effective brainstorming can only happen if you’re <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/letting-go-of-control-how-to-overcome-ego-uncertainty-and-black-and-white-thinking-with-cy-wakeman/">free from your ego</a>. You can’t be worried about saying something stupid, silly or totally off the wall, because your silly thought may trigger someone else’s brain to take it one step further. Brainstorming in a group is an experience of collective thought, an experience of developing one idea, or several ideas, through a variety of thought processes.</p>



<p>It can’t be effective unless everyone involved is comfortable with each other. If you don’t feel comfortable within the group, you may withhold the very thought that provides the solution to the problem.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-3-imagine-outlandish-solutions">3. Imagine outlandish solutions.</h2>



<p>This is really an extension of No. 2. Get your brain out of the rut by considering ideas without considering their practicality.</p>



<p>If you allow yourself to <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/saying-no-to-more-why-giving-your-brain-space-to-wander-improves-your-productivity/">think without confinement</a>, you might come up with a solution that seems totally inappropriate. But it also allows you to open up the process, which will eventually lead to appropriate solutions.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-4-doodle">4. Doodle.</h2>



<p>That’s right: doodle. The thing you got in trouble for in middle school is actually quite stimulating to the brain because the way you think while doodling is quite different from the way you think while creating a flowchart or writing a formula.</p>



<p>Because doodling wakes up a different part of your brain, our doodles might end up looking like some symbol that will trigger your brain to think of an alternative solution. So try creating your flowchart to success. It doesn’t matter if it ends up being accurate or not. What matters is that it’s stimulating the creative thought process.</p>



<p>Once you awaken that creative part of you, you’ll be amazed at the opportunities that were always there, ones you never saw before. It’s all a matter of how you look at life and opportunities.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-5-access-the-information-highway">5. Access the information highway.</h2>



<p>You <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/5-tips-for-successful-online-networking/">need to start networking</a> with people whom you’d otherwise never meet. Advances in video conferencing can allow people in different areas to share ideas face to face, and pooling information and strategy ideation can lead to success for all parties involved.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-6-commit-yourself-to-learning">6. Commit yourself to learning.</h2>



<p>Feed your mind. Sharpen your interest in two major subjects: life and people. Learn how you can better interact with others. Learn more on how to get the most from life. Learn all that you can so you can <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/continually-reach-your-potential/">reach your highest potential</a>.</p>



<ul>
<li>Learning is the beginning of a life worth living.</li>



<li>Learning is the beginning of wealth.</li>

8 Ways to Master the Art of Communication, According to Jim Rohn

<p>“The art of communication”—I like that phrase. Because <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/10-communication-secrets-of-great-leaders/">communicating<em> </em>is an art</a>. When we’re attempting to get our message out to others, it’s as though we start with a giant blank canvas and then begin to paint a picture, any picture we desire.</p>



<p>Now, most people assume that when painting a picture, they have only a few basic brushes at their disposal. But the advanced artist knows there are many tools available to create their masterpiece, and they use each to their advantage.</p>



<p>The same is true with communication. There are many tools available to you as you communicate; you just have to be aware of them and then use them purposefully. The better you become at using these tools, the better you’ll be at communicating.</p>



<p>The two primary categories these tools fall into are verbal and nonverbal. Let’s look at the different ways you can use each to improve your ability to communicate:</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-verbal-communication"><strong>Verbal Communication</strong></h2>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-your-words"><strong>1. Your words</strong></h3>



<p>It’s been said that people judge you by the words you use, and this is true. <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/shephyken/2021/10/03/choose-your-words-wisely-the-right-words-matter/?sh=7eb868e35f49" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Choose your words wisely</a>. Words have power. They have the power to move nations and they have the power to destroy as well. When you speak, use your words carefully.</p>



<p>Here are a few things to consider in regard to your words:</p>



<ul>
<li>Avoid using words that will cause the other person to think poorly of you. Slang is one example. Another is, of course, slurs of any type. Use words that communicate positive values. <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/these-2-daily-habits-can-help-build-your-optimism-muscle-in-difficult-times/">Use optimistic words</a>, words of strength. Make sure they are understandable.</li>



<li>Use words that are colorful and rich with meaning, as long as they can be understood by the listener.</li>
</ul>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-your-vocabulary"><strong>2. Your vocabulary</strong></h3>



<p>An expanded vocabulary will set you apart. It enhances the communication process and draws others in.</p>



<p>Your vocabulary can reveal your level of education, and others may make judgments about you that can affect your opportunities with them. The best communicators will use an expanded vocabulary with more educated groups and a more basic vocabulary with less educated groups.</p>



<p>Just as important as <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/10-phrases-to-drop-from-your-vocabulary/">what you say</a> is how you say it. What tone are you using? When you speak, are you monotone? Or do you fluctuate the tone of your voice, changing it up? This will naturally help people follow what you’re saying. Changing the tone of your voice is a very effective way to <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/how-to-stand-out-in-a-sea-of-the-same/">draw people into your message</a>. Imagine if a painter only used one color. We want lots of color and lots of tone.</p>



<p>Along with the words you use and your tone of voice, consider your pace. Sometimes when you speak you may need to go slowly, and sometimes you may need to go very fast. The speed with which you speak will tell others certain things. A fast pace will communicate that you’re excited about something. A slow pace usually communicates thoughtfulness or that you really want them to hear your point.</p>



<p>Choosing your pace is like using your volume in an effective way. Master communicators will draw their audience in by fluctuating their voice from very loud to a near whisper. The audience doesn’t even know that the speaker is taking them on a roller coaster ride of communication. There are lessons to be learned here. Even in a one-on-one conversation, we can shift and change volume, keeping our communication more effective.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-3-emotion"><strong>3. Emotion</strong></h3>



<p>The emotions you communicate while speaking are vital. The key here is to show emotion without “getting emotional.” Emotions can be a very effective communicator. For example, showing anger can communicate that you are very serious about something (as long as you don’t get angry often). Allowing yourself to cry can show a side of you to others that communicates that you are a person of passion who, while being a hard-charging person who desires success, also has a tender side. <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/you-can-choose-happiness/">Allowing yourself to laugh</a> will communicate that you have a fun side and do not take yourself too seriously. Emotion, if controlled, is a powerful communicator.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-4-enunciation"><strong>4. Enunciation</strong></h3>



<p>Do you speak clearly so people can understand you? Enunciation is an often-overlooked key to effective communication. It’s imperative to clearly enunciate our words so that people understand us. Clear enunciation gives a little “punch” to our communication. Work on enunciating your words clearly. The key is to get it just right—enunciating so that your words don’t run together but not over-enunciating so that you sound unnatural.</p>



<p>In all of these principles, the idea is variety. Anytime we communicate in a single way, we become predictable and people stop listening. Think of yourself. Do you like to listen to people who speak at one speed, in one tone, with a boring vocabulary and without emotion? Of course not! Then we should make every effort to be colorful and effective communicators. And we can be—if we work at it and practice, practice, practice!</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-nonverbal-communication"><strong>Nonverbal Communication</strong></h2>



<p>What you say affects how you communicate, certainly, but just as important is what you don’t say. Yes, your nonverbal communication has a major impact on how well you communicate.</p>



<p>Have you ever given much thought to how you communicate nonverbally? Here are some thoughts on ways to use nonverbal communication to support what you’re saying:</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-5-your-hands"><strong>5. Your hands</strong></h3>



<p>Keeping your hands by your side will make you seem stiff and uncomfortable. Instead, use your hands to communicate. However, don’t get too demonstrative to the point where people are wondering where your hands are going next. One way to see what you do nonverbally is to record yourself speaking. Watch what you do with your hands.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-6-your-eyes"><strong>6. Your eyes</strong></h3>



<p>The eyes can be a very powerful tool in communication. You know the old saying, “the eyes are the window to your soul”? It’s true. Think of what a mother communicates to her newborn when she gazes into their eyes, or what a couple says without words when they look into each other’s eyes. The eyes speak volumes.</p>



<p>Have you spoken with someone who is constantly looking around? What does that communicate? A lack of interest in what you have to say.</p>



<p>When you speak to someone, look at them. Give them your attention with your eyes. <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/the-power-of-eye-contact/">Listen to them with your eyes</a>. Communicate with them that they are important.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-7-your-arms"><strong>7. Your arms</strong></h3>



<p>Some people don’t even realize when they’re “closed off” to someone else by crossing their arms when the other person is speaking. <a href="https://www.mindbodygreen.com/articles/what-do-crossed-arms-mean/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Those who study this</a> tell us that crossing the arms is a surefire way to close yourself off from the other person. It communicates closure, fear<strong> </strong>and opposition.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-8-speaking-position"><strong>8. Speaking position</strong></h3>



<p>When you’re communicating, especially in a presentation situation, your speaking position—whether you are standing, sitting, kneeling, etc.—can communicate a lot.</p>



<p>For example, my good friend Zig Ziglar, a master of the stage, will frequently move to the front of the stage and kneel. What is he nonverbally communicating? He is saying, “Listen closely to this. This is really important.” He is bringing the audience in for an intimate moment. Even in a room with 1,000 people, this way of communicating can make every individual feel like Ziglar is speaking closely to just them.</p>



<p>Sitting communicates casualness. I know many speakers will give a considerable part of their presentation this way. John C. Maxwell, another friend of mine, and a world-class leadership expert, gives quite a few of his speeches while sitting. His style is informative and casual—and it is effective.</p>

Why You Should Be a Student of Your Own Life

<p>Let me share with you two of the best sources of information available.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-your-own-experiences">1. Your own experiences</h2>



<p>Become a good student of your own life. It’s the information you are most familiar with and feel the strongest about, so make your own life one of your most important studies.</p>



<p>In studying your own life, be sure to study the negative as well as the positive, your failures as well as your successes. Our so-called <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7212472/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">failures serve us</a> well when they teach us valuable information. They’re frequently better teachers than our successes<em>.</em></p>



<p>One of the ways we <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/why-failure-is-good-for-success/">learn how to do something right</a> is simply by doing it wrong. Doing it wrong is a great school for learning, but I would suggest that you not take too long doing this. If you’ve done something wrong for 10 years, I wouldn’t suggest taking another 10. But what a close-at-hand and excellent way to learn: from your own experiences!</p>



<p>When I <a href="https://hbr.org/2021/03/whats-the-right-way-to-find-a-mentor" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">met my mentor</a><strong> </strong>Mr. Shoaff, I had been working for six years. I started when I was 19, and when I met him, I was 25. He said to me, “Mr. Rohn, you have been working now for six years. How are you doing?” I said, “Not very well.” He said, “Then I suggest you not do that anymore. Six years is long enough to operate with the wrong plan.”</p>



<p>Next he asked, “How much money have you saved in the last six years?” I said, “Not any.” He said, “Who sold you on that plan six years ago?” What a fantastic question! Where did I get my current plan <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/charting-your-new-course-4-tips-when-life-doesnt-go-as-planned/">that wasn’t working well</a>? Everyone has bought someone’s<em> </em>plan. The question is whose?<em> </em>Whose plan have you bought?</p>



<p>Those initial confrontations might be a little painful at first, especially if you have made as many errors as I have. But think of the progress you can make when you finally <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/what-to-do-when-you-make-a-bad-decision/">confront those errors</a> by becoming a better student of your own life.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-other-people-s-experiences">2. Other people’s experiences</h2>



<p>Remember, you can learn from other people whether they have done things right or wrong. You can learn from the negative as well as the positive. Some human stories are called examples: Do what these people did. Other human stories are called warnings: <em>Don’t </em>do what these people did. What a wealth of information, knowing what to do and what not to do. If your story ever gets in somebody’s book, make sure they use it as an example, not a warning.</p>



<p>There are a couple ways to learn from other people.</p>



<p>Read all the books by and about people who have accomplished great things. All the successful people around the world I know and work with are good readers. They just read, read, read. They are driven to read because they just have to know. It is one of the things they all have in common.</p>



<p>Successful people also listen to audiobooks, especially while they’re in their cars or during other times when they can’t read. Audio can help all of us easily pick up new ideas and skills—like <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/15-ways-to-effectively-strengthen-your-willpower/">how to be strong</a>, <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/10-ways-successful-people-make-smart-decisions/">more decisive</a>, a better speaker, <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/10-things-effective-leaders-do-to-encourage-innovation/">a more effective leader</a>, have a better effect on other people, become more loving, develop a more winning personality, <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/building-wealth-starts-with-courage/">get rich</a>, develop persuasive influence, become sophisticated… And people don’t utilize these resources.</p>



<p>So many successful people have written their stories in books and told the world how they became successful, and most people don’t want to read or listen to them. How would you explain that? They’re busy, I guess. They say, “If you worked where I work, you’d know that by the time I struggle home, it’s late. I’ve got to have a bite to eat, watch a little TV and go to bed. I can’t stay up half the night and read.”</p>



<p>Imagine someone who is behind on the bills. He’s a good worker and very sincere. Unfortunately, you can be sincere and work hard all of your life and wind up broke, confused and embarrassed. You’ve got to be better than a good worker. <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/05/27/burst/6-steps-to-become-a-better-reader.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">You’ve got to be a good reader</a> and a good listener. You don’t have to read or listen to educational programs half the night—although, if you’re broke, it’s a good place to start. All you need is just 30 minutes a day. That’s all. Stretch it to an hour if you can, but set aside at least 30 minutes.</p>



<p>Hear or read something challenging, something instructional, at least 30 minutes a day, every day. Miss a meal, but not your 30 minutes. You can get along without some meals, but you can’t get along without some ideas, examples and inspiration.</p>



<p id="h-humans-have-to-have-food-and-words-to-be-healthy-and-prosperous-make-sure-you-have-a-good-diet-of-words-every-day">Humans have to have food and words to be healthy and prosperous. Make sure you have a good diet of words every day.</p>



<p>There’s a biblical phrase that says, “Man cannot live on bread alone.” The most important thing aside from bread is words. Words nourish the mind; words nourish the soul. Humans have to have food and words to be healthy and prosperous. Make sure you have a good diet of words every day. And remember that to properly<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/rohn-why-you-need-to-feed-your-mind"> </a>feed the mind, you must maintain good balance. Don’t just read or listen to the easy material. You can’t live on mental candy.</p>



<p>With good books and programs, you can “tap into the treasure of ideas.” And if somebody has a good excuse for not tapping into the treasure of ideas for at least 30 minutes every day, I’d like to hear it. You wouldn’t believe some excuses I’ve heard.</p>



<p>I say, “John I’ve got this gold mine. I’ve got so much gold. I don’t know what to do with it all. Come on over and dig.” John says, “I don’t have a shovel.” I say, “Well, John, let’s get you one.” He says, “Don’t you know what they want for shovels these days?”</p>



<p>John has the wrong perspective. Don’t make the same mistake. Invest the money, get the programs and books. The best money you can spend is money invested in your self-education. Don’t shortchange yourself when it comes to investing in your own better future.</p>

<p>Everyone has a mental list of “I should have’s”:</p>



<ul>
<li><em>I should have written to my mother this weekend.</em></li>



<li><em>I should have told her how much I really care long before now.</em></li>



<li><em>I should have called that creditor and told the truth last month.</em></li>



<li><em>I should have started working out years ago.</em></li>
</ul>



<p>Any day we choose we can go to work on the basics, on any one of a host of small activities that will start <a href="https://www.lifehack.org/articles/productivity/self-discipline-the-foundation-of-productive-living.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the process of self-discipline</a>. The joy and early inspiration that comes from the practice of new and simple disciplines will start a process called “soaring self-worth.” It does not matter how small or how insignificant the activity is because it is within those obscure but important disciplines that the great opportunities exist.</p>



<p>This kind of simple progress will build a ladder leading out of <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/11-tips-for-letting-go-of-past-failures-and-embracing-the-future/">the abyss of failure</a> and neglect that once was our dwelling place. With each new discipline we will have constructed a new rung that will enable us to climb out of darkness where the failures, the complainers, and the confused and misguided gather to share their sad stories of how unfair life is.</p>



<p>Building the ladder is easy to do.</p>



<p>The smallest of disciplines, practiced every day, start an incredible process that can change our lives forever.</p>



<p>Until we have learned to take care of the little opportunities life brings our way, we will never master the <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/why-happiness-comes-from-purposeful-actions/">disciplines for becoming happy</a> and prosperous. The major accomplishments in life begin with the mastery of the small disciplines. The mental, emotional and philosophical “muscles” required to write a letter, clean the garage or pay our bills on time are the very same “muscles” involved in running a company or managing a department. As a wise prophet has written:<em> “</em><em>And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not</em><em>.”</em></p>



<p>We cannot rule the city until we can rule our spirit. We cannot rule the nation until we can rule ourselves. We cannot design our future until we have <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7135855/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">redesigned our habits</a>. We cannot increase our rewards until we increase our level of intelligent activity.</p>



<p>The place to start is within ourselves through the <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/3-keys-to-developing-daily-disciplines/">development of new disciplines</a>. That is where success really starts, by becoming the master over the small details of our lives. All of the great rewards in life are available to each of us, if we will discipline ourselves to walk through those early stages of growth without neglecting any of the disciplines. We must not permit any small activity to rob us of our future health, wealth, friendship and lifestyle. We cannot allow any error in judgment to delude us into thinking that “letting the little thing slide” would not make a major difference. We cannot say to ourselves, “This is the only area where I am letting up on my self-discipline.” It is this “only area” that will start the process of erosion on all of our other disciplines.</p>



<p>One of the great challenges facing us all is disciplined activity. We must discipline ourselves to<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/why-attitude-matters/"> maintain a proper attitude</a>, for we are surrounded by sources that can quickly erode the attitude we have worked so hard to develop. And we must discipline ourselves to convert dreams into plans, and plans into goals and goals into those small daily activities that will lead us, one sure step at a time, toward a better future.</p>



<p>Finally, we must use the power of our imagination. We must ponder all that is possible. We must remind ourselves that to do what is possible we must sometimes challenge ourselves with the impossible. As Og Mandino once wrote, “...is it not better to aim my spear at the moon and strike only an eagle than to aim my spear at the eagle and strike only a rock?”</p>



<p>Planning, imagination and intense activity are awesome forces that have the power to dramatically change the <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/the-quality-of-your-life-is-determined-by-the-quality-of-your-questions/">quality of our lives</a>.</p>



<p>Activity is a major part of the life puzzle. It is the power that gives substance and meaning to our philosophy and our attitude. Intelligent, planned, intense and consistent activity creates new energy and keeps us moving toward the exciting future that our thoughts and desires have already designed for us.</p>

<p>Here is an exciting thought! Why not work full-time on your job and part-time on your fortune? And what a feeling you'll have when you can honestly say, "I'm <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/the-complete-guide-to-money-how-to-create-wealth/">working to become wealthy</a>. I'm not just working to pay my bills." When you have a wealth plan, you'll be so motivated that you'll have a hard time going to bed at night.</p>



<p>So if you will indulge me, I would like to share a simple formula for creating wealth. Here’s my thought on how money should be allocated.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-70-30-rule">The 70/30 Rule</h2>



<p>After you pay your <a href="https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-begins-2022-tax-season-urges-extra-caution-for-taxpayers-to-file-accurate-tax-returns-electronically-to-speed-refunds-avoid-delays" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">fair share of taxes</a>, <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/10-money-habits-that-are-leaving-you-broke">learn to live on 70%</a> of your after-tax income. These are the necessities and luxuries you spend money on. Then, it’s important to look at how you allocate your remaining 30%. Let's allocate it in the following ways:</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-charity">Charity</h2>



<p>Of the 30% not spent, one-third should go to charity. Charity is the act of giving back to the community and helping those who need assistance. I believe that contributing 10% of your after-tax income is a good amount to strive for.</p>



<p><a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/how-to-make-giving-back-routine/">The act of giving</a> should be taught early when the amounts are small. It's pretty easy to take a dime out of a dollar. But it's considerably harder to give away a $100,000 out of $1 million. You say, "Oh if I had $1 million, I'd have no trouble giving $100,000." I'm not so sure. $100,000 is a lot of money. Start early so you'll <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/how-to-change-your-habits/">develop the habit</a> before the big money comes your way.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-capital-investment">Capital Investment</h2>



<p>With the next 10% of your after-tax income, you're going to <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/building-wealth-starts-with-courage/">create wealth</a>. This is money you'll use to buy, fix, manufacture or sell. The key is to engage in commerce, even if only on a part-time basis.</p>



<p>So how do you go about creating wealth? There are lots of ways. Let your imagination roam. Take a close look at those skills you developed at work or through your hobbies; you may be able to convert these into a profitable enterprise.</p>



<p>In addition, you can also learn to buy a product at wholesale and sell it for retail. Or you can <a href="https://www.gsa.gov/real-estate/real-estate-investment-and-savings-strategy" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">purchase a piece of property</a> and improve it. Use this 10% to purchase your equipment, products or equity—and get started. There is no telling what genius is inside you waiting to be awakened by the spark of opportunity.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-savings"><strong>Savings</strong></h2>



<p>The last 10% should be put in savings. I consider this to be one of the most exciting parts of your wealth plan because it can offer you peace of mind by preparing you for the “winters" of life. Let me give you the definition of "rich" and "poor”: Poor people spend their money and save what's left. Rich people save their money and spend what's left.</p>



<p>Twenty years ago, two people each earned $1,000 a month and they each earned the same increases over the years. One had the philosophy of spending money and saving what's left; the other had the philosophy of saving first and spending what's left. Today, if you knew both, you'd call one poor and the other wealthy.</p>



<p>Remember that giving, investing and saving, like any form of discipline, has a subtle effect. At the end of the day, the week, the month, the results are hardly noticeable. But let five years lapse and the differences become pronounced. At the end of 10 years, the differences are dramatic.</p>



<p>And it all starts with the same amount of money—just a different philosophy.</p>

<p>Jim Rohn shares his thoughts on the importance of using time wisely. Here is a list of things you should consider to best manage your time and make the most of your day.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1. To use your time wisely, run the day or it will run you.</h2>



<p>Part of the key to using time wisely is just staying in charge. Here’s what usually happens: We start something and we’re in control, but as the day starts to unfold, we start losing control. It’s like running a business. If you don’t stay on top of things, the business will run you before long. You have to stop every once in a while and say, “Wait! Who’s in charge here?”</p>



<p>Here’s a good phrase to remember: “Some will master and some will serve.” That’s the nature of life, and you have to make sure you<em> </em>become the master. You have to run the day. You have to stay in charge.</p>



<p>What is the key to staying in charge? You must have your written set of goals with you at all times.<a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6796229/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Prioritize your goals</a> and decide which are important. Constantly review your goals, then make them a part of a well-written game plan.</p>



<p>With your game plan in hand, try to<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/8-ways-to-effectively-prioritize-the-things-on-your-to-do-list"> </a>separate the majors from the minors—the really important things from the things that you just have to do—and prioritize. A little thought will save you a lot of time.</p>



<p>Is this a major day or a minor day? <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/9-early-bird-tips-for-the-habitually-late">Adjust your time accordingly</a>. Is this a major conversation or a minor conversation? A lot of people don’t do well in this area, and here’s why: They major in minor things. They spend too much time on things that don’t count and too little time on things that should count.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2. Don’t mistake movement for achievement.</h2>



<p>You probably know some people around you who are just plain busy being busy. You’ve got to be <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/100-simple-secrets-of-productive-people/">busy being productive</a>.</p>



<p>Consider this: A man comes home at night and flops down on the couch. He says, “I’ve been going, going, going.” But the real question is, “Doing what?” Some people are going, going, going, but they’re doing figure eights. They’re not making much progress.</p>



<p>Don’t mistake movement for achievement. Evaluate the hours in your days, and see if there’s wasted time you could manage better.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">3. Use time wisely by concentrating on where you are.</h2>



<p>You’ve just got to zero in on the job at hand to use your time wisely. Don’t start your business day until you get to the business. I used to start my business day in the shower. I’d be trying to compose a letter in the shower. I’m not awake yet, and I’m trying to compose a letter. I found out that it doesn’t work that way. Wait to get to the office to start your work. Don’t start your business day at the breakfast table. It’s not good for the family, and it’s not very productive.</p>



<p>On the way to work, concentrate on your driving. In the shower, concentrate on the shower. At the breakfast table, <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/family-traditions-why-theyre-the-glue-of-great-families/">concentrate on the family</a>. Wherever you are, be there. Don’t be somewhere else. Give whatever you’re doing the gift of attention. Give people the gift of attention. Concentrate on where you are.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">4. Learn to say no.</h2>



<p>It’s easy in a society like ours to just say yes too much, to over-obligate yourself. Then it takes all that time to back out of it. Don’t say yes too quickly. It’s better to <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/learn-to-say-no-to-take-control-of-your-life">set boundaries</a> and say, “No, I cannot do this,” to use your time wisely. It’s nicer to say that than it is to back out later.</p>



<p>Being too eager to please can be dangerous. You need to appreciate yourself, your time, your limits.</p>



<p>One of my colleagues has a good saying: “Don’t let your mouth overload your back.” Being too eager to please can be dangerous. You need to appreciate yourself, your time, your limits. Know when your commitment to someone else will end up taking time away from yourself and your family. Appreciate your special time alone and appreciate your <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/how-to-balance-work-and-family-without-feeling-like-a-failure/">time with those you love</a> and those who love you.</p>



<p>This is especially important when it comes to charity work. I know entrepreneurs who have been very successful in their businesses. They get a lot of press, and they’ve been swamped with requests to do <a href="https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/pro_bono" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">pro bono</a> work. They must get a couple of offers a month to sit on one charity board or another. Here’s how they handle it: They take all requests, weigh them for time commitments and evaluate them for opportunities. Then they take a collective vote on which two they’ll accept during the next year.</p>



<p>You can’t immediately say yes to offers that sound prestigious. You can’t immediately say yes to social functions, even if they sound like a lot of fun. You’ve got to say maybe and take time to<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/top-of-mind-what-do-you-value-most"> </a>evaluate what’s truly important to you and what will just take time away from your ambitions and your family.</p>



<p>Be eager to please yourself and your family. Don’t be so eager to please everybody else. Appreciate your own limits. You don’t have to fill up every second of the day; take time to appreciate what you’ve accomplished. Take time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5. Appreciate the little details when using time wisely.</h2>



<p>Your success should be a pleasure. Appreciating what you’ve acquired and what you’ve done and<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/rohn-better-is-something-you-become"> </a>who you’ve become is important. It’s an important component in fueling your future achievements. Just knowing that you finished all you started out to do that day… that’s encouraging! It’s these little daily gains that continue to fuel your achievement.</p>



<p>Let’s say you’re figuring out tomorrow’s game plan tonight, and tomorrow looks pretty light. So all you write down for tomorrow is “cleanup day.” Clean up all the little notes on your desk. Write all the<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/11-sincere-ways-to-say-thank-you"> </a>thank-you notes you haven’t gotten around to writing all week. Take care of a few phone calls that keep getting shuffled from one day to the next. It’s just minor stuff. Nonetheless, it’s the little stuff that keeps weighing you down until you get it done.</p>



<p>Spend your day in cleanup mode. You file the notes, write the thank-you cards, make the phone calls. It’s not a major day, but at the end of the day, you feel you’ve accomplished so much. Why? Because you’ve taken care of so many little details. It’s the<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/blog/7-small-changes-that-will-make-a-big-difference-in-your-life"> </a>little details that can make a major difference. You feel like you’ve really achieved something during a day that started out to be so minor.</p>



<p>Little achievements are just as important as big achievements. Success is the constant process of <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/how-to-set-goals/">working toward your goals</a>, little achievement by little achievement. Little achievements produce big results. Anything is possible in those 24 hours we’re given each day, if you learn to use your time wisely.</p>

<p>We all know the <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/the-complete-guide-to-money-how-to-create-wealth/">value of having money</a>, especially as entrepreneurs. But we also know there are people who started enterprises with no money, who went on to make fortunes. So how did they do it?</p>



<p>I believe there are nine things that are more valuable than capital, things that can lead straight to your success:</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-time"><strong>1. Time</strong></h2>



<p><a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/time-is-your-most-valuable-resource-dont-waste-it/">Time is a treasure</a>—the time you set aside not to be wasted, not to be given away. The time you set aside to be invested in something that brings value to the marketplace with the hope of making a profit, that’s capital time.</p>



<p>How valuable is time? Time properly invested is worth a fortune; time wasted can be devastation. Time invested can perform miracles—so invest yours.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-desperation"><strong>2. Desperation</strong></h2>



<p>My friend and mentor Bill Bailey went to Chicago as a teenager after he got out of high school. And the first job he got was as a night janitor. Someone said, "Bill, why would you settle for night janitor?" He said, "Malnutrition." His first job might have been night janitor, but he went on to receive the Horatio Alger award and become rich and powerful—one of the<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/rohn-a-good-life-contains-these-6-essentials"> great examples of lifestyle</a> that I know.</p>



<p>Desperation can be a powerful incentive when you say: <em>I must</em>. You work toward whatever you can possibly get when you get hungry. You go to work somewhere—it doesn't matter where.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-3-determination"><strong>3. Determination</strong></h2>



<p>I have another friend, Lydia, whose <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/when-considering-your-investment-strategy-keep-these-3-rules-in-mind/">first major investment</a> in her new enterprise was also desperation. She needed to feed her kids—so she invested $1 in something she believed in. That $1 was used to buy a few flyers so she could make a sale at retail, collect the money and then buy the product wholesale to deliver back to the customer.</p>



<p>First Lydia said, "I must find a customer”—desperation. Second, she said, "I will find someone before this first day is over"—determination. And sure enough, she found someone. Determination says: <em>I will</em>.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-4-courage"><strong>4. Courage</strong></h2>



<p>If you've only got $1 and a lot of courage, you've got a good future ahead of you. Because humans can do the most incredible things no matter what happens—<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/rohn-3-ways-to-face-your-fears-with-courage">courage</a> in spite of, not because of, circumstances.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-5-ambition"><strong>5. Ambition</strong></h2>



<p>With courage, Lydia made three or four more sales. And once she got going, ambition took over. She thought, <em>If I can sell three, I can sell 33. If I can sell 33, I can sell 103. </em>Lydia was dazzled by her own dreams of the future.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-6-faith"><strong>6. Faith</strong></h2>



<p>At this point, Lydia began to believe she had a good product, a good company. And then she started to believe in herself—Lydia, a single mother, two kids, no job. <em>My gosh, I'm going to pull it off!</em> Her<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/8-ways-to-be-a-more-confident-person"> self-esteem</a> started to soar.</p>



<p>Faith is an investment that cannot be matched. Money can't touch it. What if you had a million dollars and no faith? You'd be poor. You wouldn't be rich.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-7-ingenuity"><strong>7. Ingenuity</strong></h2>



<p>The reason Lydia is a <a href="https://www.investopedia.com/financial-advisor/how-much-save-to-become-millionaire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">millionaire today</a> is because of her ingenuity—she put her brains to work.</p>



<p>Probably up until now, you've put about 1/10 of your brainpower to work. What if you employed the other 9/10? You can't believe what can happen. Humans can come up with the most intriguing things to do.</p>



<p>What's ingenuity worth? A fortune. All you need is a $1 and plenty of ingenuity. Figuring out a way to make it work, make it work, make it work.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-8-heart-and-soul"><strong>8. Heart and Soul</strong></h2>



<p>Heart and soul is like the unseen magic that moves people—moves people to make decisions, moves people to act, moves people to respond.</p>



<p>What is a substitute for heart and soul?<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/blog/i-stopped-chasing-money-heres-what-happened"> It's not money,</a> because heart and soul is more valuable than a million dollars. A million dollars without heart and soul? You have no life. You are ineffective.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-9-personality"><strong>9. Personality</strong></h2>



<p>My mentor Bill Bailey taught me, "You've got to learn to be just as comfortable, Mr. Rohn, whether it is in a little shack in Kentucky having a beer and watching the fights with my friend Winfred, or in a Georgian mansion in Washington, D.C., as the senator's guest."</p>



<p><a href="https://www.financialplanningassociation.org/article/journal/JUL15-wealth-and-personality-can-personality-traits-make-your-client-rich" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">You've got plenty of personality</a>. You've just got to spruce up and sharpen up it, develop it to where it is effective every day, at home anywhere, no matter who you talk to—whether it is a child or a businessperson, a rich person or a poor person. It makes no difference to you who is rich or who is poor. It’s about the chance to have a unique relationship with whomever. Have the kind of personality that's comfortable, the kind of personality that's never bent out of shape. Move with ease,<a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/6-ways-to-unlock-your-charisma"> </a>with <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/article/6-ways-to-unlock-your-charisma">charisma</a>, sophistication and humility.</p>



<p>With $1 and this list, the world is yours. It belongs to you, whatever piece of it you desire, whatever development you wish for your life. It’s the kind of capital that is more valuable than money and that can secure your future and fortune. Remember you lack not the resources.</p>

<p>Is thankfulness a survival skill? Maybe most of you would respond with, "No, thankfulness is not key to survival,” and I would tend to agree with you. Most of us have probably already solved the necessary problems of survival, gone beyond that and are now working to <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/7-crucial-mindset-shifts-to-achieve-everything-you-want/">achieve our desires</a>.</p>



<p>But let me give you this key phrase, "Learn to be thankful for what you already have while you pursue all that you want." I believe one of the greatest and perhaps one of the simplest lessons in life we can learn is to <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/the-scientific-reason-why-faking-thankfulness-actually-makes-you-thankful/">be thankful</a> for what we have already received and accomplished.</p>



<p>Both the years and the experiences have brought me here to where I stand today, but it is the thankfulness that opened the windows of opportunities, of blessings, of unique experiences to flow my way. My gratitude starts with my parents who raised me, gave me an incredible foundation that has lasted me all of these years and continues with the <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/business-coach-vs-mentor-which-one-do-you-need/">mentors who changed and revolutionized my life</a>, my income, my bank account, my future. I am also very thankful for the people, the associations, for the ideas, for the chance to work and labor, and to produce results. I'm grateful for it all.</p>



<p>Always start with thanksgiving; be thankful for what you already have and see the miracles that come from this one simple act.</p>



<p>Now thankfulness is just the beginning. Next, you've got to <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/4-ways-to-surround-yourself-with-people-who-challenge-you/">challenge yourself to produce</a>. Produce more ideas than you need for yourself so you can share and give your ideas away. That is called fruitfulness and abundance—it means working on producing more than you need for yourself so you can begin blessing others, blessing your nation and blessing your enterprise. Once <a href="https://successcom.wpenginepowered.com/11-ways-to-attract-abundance-in-your-life/">abundance</a> starts to come, once someone becomes incredibly productive, it's amazing what the numbers turn out to be.</p>



<p>But to begin this incredible process of blessing, it often starts with the act of thanksgiving and gratitude, being thankful for what you already have and for what you've already done. Begin the act of thanksgiving today and watch the miracles flow your way.</p>
