Ever wonder what it takes to get SUCCESS magazine into your hands each month? Well, welcome to the first edition of the Editor’s Blog, where I’ll be giving you a peek at what goes on behind the scenes and into each issue. Our editors, writers, copy editors, photographers, designers and production artists work hard to bring you a top-of-the-line magazine filled with life-changing strategies and insights. But we also truly love what we do, and we hope that, as you get to know us a little better through this blog, you’ll see why.
Our focus for the December issue is on family and relationships. To get our cover story, Managing Editor Amy Anderson flew to sunny California and sat down with fellow Texans Dr. Phil and Robin McGraw (that’s her pictured with the McGraws).
Amy did the interview in Phil’s office at Paramount Studios. “I was a total tourist on the way in, gawking at the sets and shooting pictures of the studio water tower,” she says. Amy met both Phil and Robin, along with their son Jay and his wife Erica. “The McGraws put me right at ease, right away, smiling and shaking hands. During the interview, Phil and Robin were very gracious. And they kept exchanging looks and smiles with each other; it was obvious they are still very much in love.”
The McGraws, who work closely with their kids in Los Angeles, offer straightforward tips for maintaining a strong marriage, staying partners after becoming parents and keeping holiday stress to a minimum.
The holidays are often a time of creativity, so while putting this issue together we had a great time exploring the concept of thinking like a child to unlock hidden potential. And we got some insider tips from the best-run family businesses—tips so timeless they apply whether you’re in business with your family or not. Plus, read our fresh interview with Deepak Chopra, who says true wealth comes from creativity.
We hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it together. And we hope it helps you focus on the people in your life who mean the most, and to make the most of your time with them.
So again, welcome to the Editor’s Blog! And on behalf of all the talented folks on the SUCCESS team, thank you for being part of our family this year.
