Cheap Tricks

Want to pay less for tech? Wendy Sheehan Donnell, PCMag’s managing editor for consumer electronics and mobile devices, offers some pointers:

• Aside from Black Friday, “One of the best times to buy most electronics is at the end of the year, when retailers, both online and brick-and-mortar, are clearing stock to make room for next year’s models.”

• “Always check prices online before shopping. Even better, download a price-comparison app on your phone. Many of them let you scan barcodes to find the lowest prices for that particular item at the closest stores.” SUCCESS suggests ShopSavvy (free).

• “Never buy anything online without searching for a coupon code first. A simple Google search often serves up a code for free shipping or some other perk, which can save you some cash.” SUCCESS suggests: RetailMeNot.com.
