Collectively, we seem to have bought into this—indeed, it’s a hallmark of the American “bootstrapping” mantra. As alluring as this motivational concept may be, all that glitters is not gold. Yet glitter it does, and we’re enticed by this.
Everyone experiences mimetic desire. It can be ugly, but we all go through it. We have to learn to see both sides of the two-way mirror to recognize this feeling in ourselves, deal with it and keep it from becoming a problem.

Without a good plan for what used to be your debt payment, you run the risk of lifestyle inflation and spending all of that money before it has a chance to help you make your future better.
