Ready to Live Life on Your Terms? This Podcast Is for You

In early 2021, I had the craziest three months of my life.

My husband was sinking into a depression because his investments had crashed during the market recovery. My best friend, who had lived one block away from me for 12 years, decided to move away. My mother was diagnosed with melanoma. My father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

A few weeks later, I had just finished writing my book, You’re Kind of a Big Deal: Level Up by Unlocking Your Audacity. It was my first professional big-girl book published by one of the big five New York publishers, complete with the agent, the book deal and everything. Despite all that had gone wrong recently, I was feeling good. The very day I finished the book, I decided to walk my 8-month-old puppy Stevie Nicks with me to the grocery store.

On the way back from the store, a car screamed around a corner and hit my fur baby. She died in my arms.

The grief and trauma of that moment was enough to turn my life upside-down on its own. But that was just the last of a series of life-changing moments I had experienced in a three-month time frame about a year into the pandemic. It rocked me to my core. It made me question everything: my priorities, what success looks like, what matters to me, what joy feels like, what truly winning and setting goals could and should look like.

On Your Terms with Erin King is no longer releasing new episodes on the SUCCESS Podcast Network, but you can still listen to the full conversation below.

Here’s the thing: I know every one of you reading this has had some version of that experience in the past two years. We have been through it. Many of us want to start living our lives differently, on our own terms.

Who I am

Maybe I should have given you a little more insight into who I am before diving into my pandemic horror story. I’m Erin King. I’m a three-time entrepreneur, keynote speaker and the CEO of Socialite Agency. I’m also the author of two books, the one I already mentioned and Digital Persuasion: Sell Smarter in the Modern Marketplace

Oh, I’m also a podcaster and die-hard dog mom to a cavapoo named Miss Betty White.

I’ve seen successes and failures in business and entrepreneurship. I’ve been through the best and worst of those experiences. And I built a social media firm that has claimed clients like Disney, the Oscars, Visa, the U.S. Navy and more.

For 40 years, I watched my dad work for the same company and live his life in a way that was most definitely not on his terms. He was stressed and drained and at someone else’s beck and call. I vowed never to repeat that with my life. And I haven’t. Now, I’m here to help you live life on your terms, too.

Who you are

Who is this new podcast for? This podcast is for those of us who are very hungry, at this exact moment, to live a life by design.

So, if you’ve been wondering how you can go your own way, if you are a dreamer and a doer, if you are an independent thinker, if you are a trailblazer, if you are a “why not” kind of person, then, friend, this podcast is for you.

Now, the goal of this podcast is for you and I to hyperfocus on controlling the controllables. As a new listener of this podcast, you’re someone who knows we can’t control everything happening around us—really anything happening around us—but we can control how we choose to respond to it.

What we’ll talk about

You and I are going to uncover and really dive into deep insights from some of the world’s brightest trailblazers, thinkers, authors, coaches, speakers, CEOs, executives, entrepreneurs, artists, healthcare professionals and so many more.

We’re going to go deeper and juicier than public appearances and LinkedIn profiles to peel back and lean super hard into the real tough truth about what it takes to live a life that you truly love. Why? Because I believe that is where we can truly elevate and optimize how we live, how we love, how we operate, and, most importantly, how we feel in our own personal and professional lives.

To get a little more specific, here’s a preview of some of the topics we’re going to discuss on On Your Terms

  • What is happening in this brave new world of hybrid work
  • Redefining what success looks like for us on the other side of a pandemic
  • Not only our physical health, but also our mental health
  • Digital health and all that entails in an increasingly virtual world
  • What it looks like to lead teams virtually and remotely
  • How leadership is shifting in this world of moving boundaries
  • How expectations differ from generation to generation
  • Ways we can be super strategic and work smarter, not harder

Why we’re here

What I want to talk about in this podcast is what it takes to come back alive after everything we’ve all been through. I know firsthand that it’s challenging, but I can promise you this: It is not impossible. That’s why we’re here: To figure out our futures.

I am so excited to embark on this journey with you. I can’t wait to see you here each week, and I’ll leave you with this for now: Get out there today and seek success, but please remember to seek it on your terms.

Thank you so much for investing your heart, your mind and, of course, your time with me here today. It is my deepest hope that this podcast will help you glean at least a few new nuggets of wisdom on how to better live a life you love on your terms. Talk soon.
