Laughter Is Good for the ‘Sole’

Wearing bright red socks, no shoes and a cheeky grin for the June 2011 cover story, actor and comedian Steve Martin tells SUCCESS magazine why after decades in the spotlight, he stays on his toes to deliver new material.

“It’s quite easy to be what others might call ‘disciplined,'” Martin says. “I love playing music. I love writing. And I love performing.”

To highlight Martin’s apparent lack of shoes, SUCCESS magazine has teamed with Nashville-based Soles4Souls that distributes shoes to people in need throughout the world. The organization has given away over 5.5 million pairs of shoes since 2005.

Soles4Souls founder Wayne Elsey was moved to action when he saw an image of a lone shoe washed up on the beach after the 2004 tsunami hit Southeast Asia. One shoe. One life. One big mission. In just eight weeks, he collected more than 250,000 pairs of shoes for Southeast Asians. Today, his sights are set higher. Soles4Souls aims to collect 11 million pairs of shoes in 2011, called the 11 in 11 initiative. SUCCESS magazine hopes to bring Soles4Souls that much closer to its goal.
