At some point in your life, you’ve probably felt stuck. Whether you feel like you’re spinning your wheels at work, in your personal life or with physical fitness, there are a few tried-and-true methods that experts say will help you get unstuck.
1. Take a break.
Just like taking a quick break at work can make you more productive throughout your day, taking a longer break, such as a vacation, can help free you from a long productivity rut. Getting out of the office for a few days while not checking your email, answering your phone or doing other work-related activities can clear your mind and reduce anxiety. Then when you do return to work, you can see your problems from a new perspective.
2. Start small.
Set small goals to break down what you need to achieve into doable chunks. Depending on what got you into the rut, you might be overwhelmed by the amount of work required to get out of it. Instead of focusing on the major tasks, break your work down into small goals and achieve them one at a time.
3. Just say no.
As financial writer Kristin Wong says, one of the worst things you can do when stuck is accept more unnecessary work. Adding stress to your life when you are already feeling stuck is only going to make things worse. If your friend asks you for a time-consuming favor, tell him or her it isn’t the best time.
