The Part You Can't Do Alone
You can do hard things by yourself. But becoming? That’s a different ask.
The people moving most right now aren’t the ones working the hardest. They’re the ones who finally let someone in. Who let a mentor see the messy parts. Who let a teammate sharpen them without flinching. Who reached back for someone a few steps behind, and felt the weight of their own becoming get a little lighter in the process.
Dear SUCCESS family,
I’ll be honest. There’s a version of becoming I tried to do by myself.
Head down. Build through the noise. Trust the work even when no one was watching. There’s something noble about that—but there’s something in the work itself that eventually breaks.
Because here’s what I’ve learned the hard way: transformation is a thing only you can do. But it’s not a thing you can do alone.
Those are different sentences.
The breakthroughs I thought I had at 2am? Someone planted those seeds three conversations ago.
The clarity that “came to me” in the quiet? It came through people who had seen something in me before I could see it.
The systems I tore down to build something new? I needed mirrors. I needed witnesses. I needed people willing to stand near me when I wasn’t sure what I was becoming yet.
I think a lot of us are carrying versions of ourselves we’re trying to outgrow. Beautiful, exhausted versions.
The ones who learned to do everything alone because at some point we had to. The ones who built the muscle of self-reliance so deep we forgot we were allowed to put it down.
What I’m noticing—in this company, in this community, in my own life—is that the people moving most right now aren’t the ones working the hardest. They’re the ones who finally let someone in. Who let a mentor see the messy parts. Who let a teammate sharpen them without flinching. Who reached back for someone a few steps behind, and felt the weight of their own becoming get a little lighter in the process.
That’s the part nobody warned me about. Becoming together feels different than becoming alone. Lighter. Stranger. Truer.
We’re living through one of the most transformative moments any of us will ever see. AI is rewriting how we work. The old maps don’t quite fit. And I don’t think any of us were meant to figure this out by ourselves.
So if you’re in the middle of something—a build, a pivot, a quiet shedding—I just want to say: you don’t have to keep doing it alone.
Transformation goes further when you have people walking with you.
That’s the whole game.
