Since Chip and Joanna Gaines became household names and the breakout stars of HGTV, there aren”t a lot of things this Waco, Texas couple have 100 percent control of.

“I’m a firm believer that the only thing I can control on a daily basis is my attitude,” Chip tells SUCCESS editor-in-chief Josh Ellis for the January 2018 SUCCESS, featuring the Gaines on the cover. Their Magnolia Market storefront, their collaborations with Target and other retailers, even the tourist traffic that makes their way to their iconic rural farmhouse are all growing at a pace faster than they could have predicted.

But something Chip and Joanna can take control of is their family and relationship. That”s why after several successful seasons on HGTV”s Fixer Upper, the domestic duo are stepping away from the show to make time for what”s most important to them: being home with people they love. “For us, good things happen at home,” says Chip, author of Capital Gaines: Smart Things I Learned Doing Stupid Stuff. “It”s where life happens, it”s where love happens,” Chip says.
