Small Business Saturday, founded by American Express in 2010, has one, well, big, goal. That is to support small local businesses. The nationwide event falls on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so this year, that’s November 30.
When consumers support mom and pop, small businesses can create more jobs, and that helps power the economy and strengthens and revitalizes the community. The diner down the street, the brewery behind the trees, the boutique across from the art gallery on the corner all need help to flourish.
“At independent, locally owned businesses, 52 percent of what you spend stays right in your community, supporting local organizations and services,” according to the American Booksellers Association Indie Impact Study Series survey by Civic Economics.
American Express is offering a $10 credit for card members when they enroll their eligible American Express card and use it to spend at least $10—in a single, in-store transaction—at a qualifying small business location on Saturday. Enrollment opened on November 24 and is limited, so register now to take advantage of the offer.
If you’re a small-business owner, promote your unique products and services for Small Business Saturday with American Express’s resources. With tools like a personalized marketing campaign, including downloadable Shop Small logos, printable signage and suggested social media and email templates, businesses can spread the word and spark the interest of local shoppers to come by during Saturday’s celebration.
Along with previewing store participation, owners can accessorize for the event with free Shop Small goodies, including a welcome mat and reusable shopping bags. Although the deadline for guaranteed delivery by November 30 has passed, eligible businesses can still register and use the materials anytime to encourage support of small businesses year-round.
