Life Doesn’t Happen to You, It Happens for You

Imagine that everything in your life is working for you.

Of course, “everything in life” entails the good, the bad, the sad, the disappointments and all situations in between. On top of this, what if you believed that all of these were placed in your path as a means to help you get where you are supposed to be?

So when imagining this, would you get mad when things go wrong? When bad situations come your way, would you think to yourself, Why is this happening to me? Would you be disappointed by your setbacks or perceived failures?

Probably not.

That’s because your perspective would have changed. You would have discovered that life does not happen to you, it happens for you. Author Byron Katie puts it this way: “Life is simple. Everything happens for you, not to you. Everything happens at exactly the right moment, neither too soon nor too late. You don’t have to like it…. It’s just easier if you do.”

When you have the perspective that life happens for you, you can stop battling all the things that bother you. You can accept that although things might not always go as you plan, there is always something better in store. You can breathe. You can live easier, live simpler, knowing everything is happening for your good.

Yes, taking on this mantra is probably easier said than done, but it is possible. And by doing so, you will feel free and uplifted knowing that although you might face challenges, their happening is part of a bigger plan. They’re getting you to the people and places you were already destined to encounter. Because that’s why you’re here.

Don’t fight life and don’t fight yourself for what you can’t control. Accept things and decide what you can and can’t do about it. As you do, hold on to the idea that no matter what’s going on in your life, what lies within you is greater than any obstacle, disappointment or difficulty you might be facing.

You will always be guided to where you should be. You just have to believe that life happens for you, not to you.
