John Addison: What the YouEconomy Could Mean for You

The world is changing. The world of work is changing. When change happens, you can either embrace it and move forward with it or you can get run over by it.

I’m in my late 50s, and I was very fortunate. I started with a startup company in 1982 that grew to be a giant in its industry. I was with the same company for 34 years and wound up as co-CEO, having an amazing career and an amazing run. I’m not sure that’s the way things are going to work in the future. Big corporations are locking onto one thing and just staying forever—it probably isn’t going to be the way you work. You’ve got to take control of your life—not waiting for the government, not waiting for a corporation. You taking charge of your economy.

A lot of people call it the gig economy, the sharing economy, all of those kinds of things. What I really think it is, is you controlling the means to your income instead of letting the means to your income control you. It’s you taking control of your life. It’s you becoming the captain of your ship and charting your course and deciding when you want to work, how you want to work.

That takes education. That takes working on yourself. The key to you, is you—and that means you’ve got to improve, you’ve got to learn, you’ve got to get better. You’ve got to hone your skills and your craft every day. And that’s where I believe SUCCESS comes in. With all of the things they’re going to do, they’re going to provide you the tools you need to maximize your efforts and your results in the YouEconomy.

See you at the top!
