Freytag: Your 30 Days Starts Today

Over the last 20 years, I have helped thousands of people lose weight and get fit. Thousands more watch me on television giving tips and exercise options and have downloaded my exercise videos and used my DVDs. I am an author, a fitness trainer and a motivator in my professional life, and I am passionate about helping others lead healthy lifestyles. But I am also a mother of three teenagers, with a full-time career, and a wife, a neighbor, a co-worker… and like you I am trying to lead a healthy and fulfilling life in the midst of a crazy, busy world.

Over the next 30 days, I’ll give you quick and easy bits of information (since I know we are all busy) and inspire you to take ACTION toward better health! I hope you’ll find something worthy of trying and contemplate a few of the lifestyle changes I suggest to take better care of yourself and your family.

You’ve heard this before—there is a vital link between good health and great performance. Whether on the job, on the athletic field or in everyday life, healthy people have more energy, and are said to be 40 percent more productive than unhealthy people.

My first question: Do you have a birthday every year? If you answered yes, that’s great—you are in luck because statistics show the people who have the most birthdays live the longest. OK, enough with the corny humor… let’s get down to business.

Good health is multifaceted. It’s your physical being, it’s your diet and it’s your emotional state. It’s all intertwined, and when the parts work together, it creates a very powerful sum.

The starting point to a journey toward getting fit and healthy begins with taking a look within. If you feel like you are stuck in a state of constant fatigue, the writing is on the wall that you are ready for change. I always say, “Life is crazy but you don’t have to be”—meaning we are all running around so crazy and busy, we are completely exhausted and depleted of our resources. But I’m not going to tell you to ‘slow down’ because it’s not necessarily an option for us driven overachievers. What I am going to do over the next 30 days is help you creatively and intelligently improve your health with effective strategies and smart choices.

One of my mottos is, “Strive for progress not perfection.” How can an entrepreneur accept mediocrity? Well, I’m not saying be mediocre. I’m saying that expecting perfection usually leads to disappointment. Make little adjustments and changes that are doable and that you can live with, and then add on to them each week.

I have always said, “Genetics loads your gun but environment pulls your trigger.” Researchers report that genes play a part in your health, but you have a large percentage of personal control when defining your attitude and how you take care of yourself.  I look forward to empowering you with new ways to consider improving your physical and mental health, and ultimately performing better on all levels.
