John Stanton is a leader in the wireless communications industry with more than 20 years of experience in creating and managing wireless companies. Stanton co-founded the first large wireless communications company in the United States, McCaw Cellular Communications, where he served as Chief Operating Officer and Vice Chairman until forming his own wireless companies. In 1992 Stanton founded Western Wireless which in 1994 formed VoiceStream Wireless — its personal communications services subsidiary. Stanton has led VoiceStream Wireless, now T-Mobil, from a small regional wireless company to a leading national wireless provider and one of the fastest growing wireless companies in the United States. Under Stantons leadership, Western Wireless has grown to be one of the leading providers of communications in the Western United States and is one of the premier wireless companies serving rural areas. Stanton recently retired as Chairman of T-Mobile USA and in 2005 sold Western Wireless Corporation. Stanton also serves as a board member of ADIC, Columbia Sportswear, and HTIL. He is also a trustee of Whitman College.
