The Key to Avoiding Workaholism Is Just Being PresentHeather Baker was always driven, but somewhere along the way, she went from “going the extra mile” to a full-blown workaholic. The founder and CEO of TopLine Comms, a London-based digital marketing agency, said it took a health scare to get her to take a step back and reprioritize her life. Baker began doing yoga, meditating and reading Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by leadership consultant Greg McKeown. A member of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization since 2012, Baker offers this advice to entrepreneurs who don’t give themselves a break:

“Read Greg McKeown’s book. Being grounded allows me to be fully present in the moment and helps keep me focused on the task at hand. On those days when I’m not as vigilant about meditating or being grateful, I find I worry more and don’t get as much done. In yoga, they tell you to stay on your mat. The fastest way to become overwhelmed is to compare yourself to someone else, especially if that person is further along on the journey than you are.”
